Burning produces heavy smoke.
5.3. Advice for firefighters
Use suitable breathing apparatus.
Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. No smoking. Take action to prevent.
static discharges. In the event of fire, cool the endangered containers with water. When
heated above the flash point and/or during spraying (atomizing), ignitible mixtures may form in
air.
Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into
drains.
Move undamaged containers from immediate hazard area if it can be done safely.
SECTION 6: Accidental release measures
6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Assure sufficient ventilation. Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face
protection. Keep away sources of ignition. Use breathing apparatus if exposed to
vapours/dust/mist/aerosol. Do not breathe vapours or spray mist. Do not eat, drink or smoke
when using this product. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
For non-emergency personnel:
Wear personal protection equipment.
Wear breathing apparatus if exposed to vapours/dusts/aerosols.
Provide adequate ventilation.
Use appropriate respiratory protection.
See protective measures under point 7 and 8.
For emergency responders:
Wear personal protection equipment.
6.2. Environmental precautions
Do not allow to enter soil/subsoil. Do not allow to enter surface water or drains.
Retain contaminated washing water and dispose of it.
In case of escape or of entry into waterways, soil or drains, inform the responsible authorities.
Suitable material for taking up: sand, earth, vermiculite etc.
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Wash with plenty of water.
Larger quantities: Remove mechanically (by pumping). Use explosion-proof equipment!
Smaller quantities and/or residues: Contain with absorbent material (e.g. sand, diatomaceous
earth, acid absorbent, universal absorbent or sawdust). Dispose of in accordance with
regulations.

See also section 8 and 13
SECTION 7: Handling and storage
7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Do not breathe vapours. Absolutely avoid contact with the eyes and/or skin. Safety shower
and eye wash fountain should be available.

with water.
When heated above the flash point and/or during spraying (atomizing), ignitible mixtures may
form in air.
Keep container tightly closed.
Provide good room ventilation even at ground level (vapours are heavier than air).
Methacrylic acid freezes at 15°C (59°F). Improper thawing can result in violent
polymerization. The thawing of frozen drums can best be accomplished by placing them in a
heated room at temperatures up to 40°C (104°F). This will allow the acid to melt slowly within
a 48-hour period.
DO NOT remove any material if stock is frozen or partially frozen. Mix during and after
thawing to properly distribute inhibitor. NEVER use steam or electric heating bands.
Use localized ventilation system.
Ensure empty containers have been cleaned of any residue before reuse.
Before transferring product, ensure that there are no traces of incompatible material residues
in the containers.
See also section 8 for recommended protective equipment.
Advice on general occupational hygiene:
Contaminated clothing should be changed before entering eating areas.
Do not eat or drink while working.
7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities.
Always keep in a well-ventilated place.
Keep away from food, drink and feed.
Fill the container by approximately 90 % only as oxygen (air) is required for stabilisation. With
large storage containers make sure the oxygen (air) supply is sufficient to ensure
stability. Maintain the temperature of the methacrylic acid between 18°C and approx.
35°C.Protect from light. The ideal storage temperature is 20-25°C.Can polymerize with intense.
heat release. Higher temperature such as 40° C can be safely tolerated for short times such
as during transportation or inventory turnover.
Incompatible materials:
None in particular.

Use clothing that provides comprehensive protection to the skin, e.g. cotton, rubber, PVC or
viton. On handling of larger quantities: face mask, chemical-resistant boots and apron.
Protection for hands:
Material: Butyl rubber.
Break-through time: 480 min
Glove thickness: 0.3 mm

Additional Information: Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and
breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into
consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the
danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time., The above-mentioned hand protection is
based on special knowledge of the chemical and the intended handling of this product,
however, it still may not be suited for all workplaces. A qualified hazard assessment should be
made prior to the onset of work in order to determine the suitability of gloves for specific
working environments and processes. Gloves should be discarded and replaced if there is
any indication of degradation or chemical breakthrough.
Respiratory protection:
Use respiratory protection where ventilation is insufficient, or exposure is prolonged.
Use adequate protective respiratory equipment.
